Executive Committee Spotlight

The League would like to thank Former Payson Mayor Kenny Evans and Former Coolidge Councilmember Gilbert Lopez for their many years of service on the League Executive Committee. Both individuals have contributed greatly to the Committee and the League and their service to the organization and their respective communities is truly appreciated.

Spotlight on Mayor Evans, Town of Payson
Served for six years on the League Executive Committee

Why did you decide to serve in local government?
I wanted to use the skills I had learned in business to help my community work through the most challenging economic downturn in nearly 80 years.

What are you most proud of during your time in office?
We helped a town whose leaders were literally at war with one another slowly but effectively begin to work together to address critical issues and decisions. We went from council meetings that spilled all the way out into the parking lot, to calm and deliberative meetings where we could disagree without being disagreeable.

What is a favorite memory from serving during your years on the League Executive Committee?
My favorite memories were of being able to meet and positively influence state & national leaders because of the League's stature as a proponent of Arizona's citizens back home.

Why is the League important to cities and towns in Arizona?
The League provides an opportunity to collaborate and effectively communicate to decision makers and to learn from fellow leaders from cities & towns across the state.

Councilmember Gilbert Lopez, City of Coolidge
