League Policy Committees

Last year, the League added policy committees to the resolutions process. The new policy committees allow for more in-depth research and greater involvement by elected officials and staff in developing the League's Municipal Policy Statement.

As the legislative session begins to wind down, policy committees will once again be meeting in the next few months to prepare for the resolutions committee.

If you are interested in joining one of the committees, please indicate your interest by e-mailing resolutions@azleague.org.

Each of the five separate policy committees are chaired by a member of the Executive Committee, and consist of elected officials and municipal staff. At times, other stakeholders may be invited to participate to provide needed expertise and perspective.

The five policy committees and their chairs are:
  • Budget, Finance and Economic Development, Mayor Kenny Evans of Payson
  • General Administration, Human Resources and Elections, Mayor Lana Mook of El Mirage
  • Neighborhoods, Quality of Life and Sustainability, Councilmember Gilbert Lopez of Coolidge
  • Public Safety, Military Affairs and Courts, Mayor Jerry Weiers of Glendale
  • Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Works, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild of Tucson
Your city or town can submit policy ideas to be considered for resolutions at any time of the year. Once a policy idea is assigned, the committee can begin working on the issue and have it vetted by the time resolutions are to be considered. A brief explanation and purpose of the idea is all that is necessary, as the policy committee and League staff will flesh out the full text of the resolution. Policy submissions can also be submitted to resolutions@azleague.org.
