The University of Arizona Impact Map: Visualizing the UA's Statewide Impact

Though its main campus is based in southern Arizona, the University of Arizona has wide-ranging impact across the state as Arizona's only land-grant university. Now, a new tool demonstrates the effects of the UA's impact in the form of an online, interactive map.

Overview
The UA's Impact Map was designed to demonstrate the UA's commitment to serving the entire state of Arizona. This new tool visualizes the UA's statewide impact in a variety of areas. For example, it includes data on the number of UA students, alumni and employees in Arizona, as well as the number of degrees awarded throughout the state.

The map can be viewed by county, state district or federal district, and it includes links to the latest news about UA initiatives and developments unfolding throughout the state. It also shows the UA's significant economic impact in Arizona, which totals $8.3 billion, according to data provided in a report released by nationally recognized consultants Tripp Umbach.

Significant Data Points
The Impact Map plots each of the UA's campuses in Tucson, Phoenix and Sierra Vista; its 160 telemedicine sites; its Cooperative Extension offices, which can be found in every Arizona county; its learning and research centers; and other UA offices that provide a variety of important services to Arizonans in every corner of the state.

The map also provides diverse data related to the UA's academic, research and outreach services. These services have a significant impact on issues related to education, the economy and quality of life in Arizona.

A few examples of data available on the Impact Map include:

  • Financial aid awarded to in-state university students totaled $235,464,511 during the 2013-14 school year.
  • The UA employs 10,484 full-time employees in Pima County.
