Oro Valley: 40 Never Looked So Good

It's been 40 years since the town of Oro Valley's incorporation in 1974, and we have never looked so good!

What began as a small community of 2.4 square miles and a population of 1,200 has grown to a thriving town of 36 square miles and more than 41,000 residents. The town has grown, but we've also maintained a focus on core values and services. Public safety and community policing programs, combined with infrastructure investments like the pavement preservation program, ensure that Oro Valley continues to meet the community's high level of expectations.

Oro Valley's roads are the best in the region because the town has taken a proactive approach to investing in infrastructure. Water quality and resource management are maintained at the highest levels, and the town continues to invest in its parks and recreation assets, such as the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, Naranja Park and the newly-opened archery ranges. The Oro Valley Police Department continues to provide excellent service through partnerships that build trust, eliminate crime, create a safe environment and enhance the quality of life within our community. Residents have peace of mind knowing that town regulations protect property values and encourage beautification and maintenance of Oro Valley neighborhoods. Businesses are supported through free, web-based support for Oro Valley businesses as well as "shop local" programs and campaigns. Through all of this, the town of Oro Valley's brand-our reputation for beauty, safety and high quality-of-life-has been recognized both regionally and nationally. 40 never looked so good!

Over the years, as the town has developed into a self-sustaining community, Oro Valley has earned several distinctions, including:

  • America's 10 Safest Suburbs-Movoto Real Estate, March 2014

  • Best Place in Arizona to Raise Kids-Bloomberg Businessweek, 2013

  • Among the Best Places to live in Arizona-Yahoo!, January 2011

  • Playful City Community USA, 2011, 2012 and 2013

  • 10 Best Towns for Families-Family Circle Magazine, August 2008

  • 100 Best Places in America to Live and Launch a Small Business-Fortune Small Business Magazine, April 2008

We are also now home to global companies like Sanofi, Securaplane and Ventana Medical Systems, a member of the Roche Group, and have become a hub for bio-science and high-tech industry in Southern Arizona.

There was so much to celebrate for the town's 40th that it couldn't possibly be done in one event! Instead, the Town hosted the "Life in OV" K-12 student art contest, developed a "40 Never Looked So Good" community video series, hosted a Dinner & Silent Auction to benefit the Oro Valley Historical Society, held a 40th anniversary celebration festival event for the whole family, sponsored a family day at Catalina State Park and partnered with local businesses for the "40 Days of Deals" countdown. It was truly a community-wide celebration!

Oro Valley's success story is the result of sound fiscal management, solid leadership, commitment to our core principles, creative vision and decades of guidance from town Councils, both past and present.
