Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy

The Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy is now accepting applications for its 2014 cohort. As you may know, the academy aims to expand the number of Arizonans who are dedicated to state-level public service and equipped to help make fact-driven decisions to benefit future Arizonans. We are searching for Arizonans from throughout the state, all walks of life, and all perspectives to join a prestigious network committed to state-level civic leadership.

As an experienced leader, you have a keen eye for civic leadership talent. We would be delighted to talk with anyone you might suggest and hope you will forward notice of this opportunity to others. Your assistance is vital to identifying potential applicants who represent the state's diversity.

The ideal candidate for the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy:

  • Is a committed, proven, ambitious leader who aspires to serve Arizona at the state level as an elected official; a state government executive or policy advisor; a member of a state board, commission, or advisory council; or an executive in a statewide organization that significantly affects public policy.
  • Has led or participated in collaborative processes to make fact-driven decisions for long-term benefits.
  • Is comfortable analyzing complexity and uncertainty.
  • Will consider many perspectives when addressing challenges and opportunities.
  • Has taken steps to develop as a civic leader and serve the community.
  • Appreciates today's historical, cultural, social, and political context for leadership.
  • Enhances the image of public service through high ethical standards, civility, and achievement.
Those chosen to be Flinn-Brown Fellows are expected to participate fully in:

  • 12 intensive day-long seminars and a leader-in-residence event from early September through mid-November.
  • Performance coaching for state-level civic leadership.
  • Ongoing activities and long-term support to build individual capacity and strengthen the fellows' network.
The application process is highly competitive with more candidates than places available. There is no charge for the academy. Mileage and lodging expenses are paid for those who must travel to sessions.

Applications are due Monday, May 19, 2014.
