City/Town Snapshot: Town of Pinetop - Lakeside

Come and "Celebrate the Seasons" in beautiful Pinetop-Lakeside, a cool mountain community in the scenic White Mountains of Arizona. Founded in the early 1880's by Mormon pioneers, Lakeside derived its name from the area's lakes, and Pinetop derived its name from the nickname of a saloon keeper who served the Fort Apache soldiers. The two communities of Pinetop and Lakeside incorporated as one town in 1984.

Pinetop-Lakeside, at an elevation of 7,200 feet is known for its extensive tourism and recreational activities, proximity to the world's largest stand of ponderosa pine, and for an outstanding quality of life. Pinetop-Lakeside is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Apache/Sitgreaves National Forest and the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Hiking, golfing, wildlife watching, biking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing are popular summertime recreational activities. Cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, and ice fishing can be enjoyed during the winter. Sunrise Ski Resort, home to some of the best skiing in Arizona, is only 30 minutes away. Camping and picnic facilities are provided throughout the area. There are 11 fishing lakes within a half-hour drive from town. In addition, the White Mountain Trail system provides over 200 miles of developed multi-use trails.

Staying and playing is easy in Pinetop-Lakeside with a variety of affordable accommodations ranging from cabins and motels to RV parks and campgrounds, while enjoying a variety of cuisines at local restaurants.

Since 1975, Pinetop-Lakeside has hosted the Annual Fall Festival on the last weekend in September. The Fall Festival includes Cool Runnings, a 2-mile fun run or 10k competitive run throughout our beautiful community; the Fall Festival Parade, Run to the Pines Car Show, a Cavalcade of Cars, a quilt show, an antique show and sale, and an Art Festival at the Mountain Meadow Recreation Complex.
