Why did you decide to serve in local government?
I saw that I could use the skills I had as a lawyer, a businessman and someone involved in a leadership capacity with various non-profits to help the city move forward.

What are the biggest challenges facing your city or town today?
We are still in a very challenging economy. Job creation and economic development are top priorities for me.

What opportunities do you see for your community?
Tucson has great resources in the University of Arizona, Davis-Monthan and Raytheon. They form the core of a science and technology hub - which includes biotech, optics, aerospace and defense, to name a few. We have a vibrant art and music scene and an authentic, welcoming culture. Our proximity to Mexico gives us access to international markets and international financing. I think building on these strengths will create great opportunities for the people of Tucson.

What are you most proud of during your tenure on the Executive Committee?
This will be my first year on the Executive Committee. I'm always proud to represent the great city of Tucson.

Why is the League important to cities and towns in Arizona?
It's important that cities and towns come together and advocate for their common interests - to make sure we speak for our citizens, especially at the state Legislature. At the local level, we've been elected to solve problems, and not to fight partisan or ideological battles. Coming together and speaking with one voice through the League makes that point as well as anything.
