Temporary Solar Home Now at Tempe Center for the Arts

A state of the art, solar-powered home was built at the edge of Tempe Town Lake and was only there through Jan. 30. daHAUS was constructed in the park to the east of the Tempe Center for the Arts and visitors are now able to tour the solar home. A grand opening celebration took place at 8 a.m. on January 23 with representatives from the Tempe City Council, ASU, the German American Chambers of Commerce and the Governor's Office.

dasHAUS is a full-sized home with the latest market-ready renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions from Germany. Everyone from young children to professionals in the fields of energy, construction, architecture and engineering will be able to learn something from this traveling exhibit.

Free tours of the home are available for the public beginning on Monday, January 23, by signing up at tempe.dashaustour.com/rsvp/ or calling dasHAUS at (415) 248-1242.

The dasHAUS exhibit will be open to the public from January 25-30 at the Tempe Arts Park, located at 700 West Rio Salado Parkway. On January 31, the house comes down and moves to its next location.

Visitors of dasHAUS can learn about a multitude of sustainability technologies including:

  • Thin film photovoltaic roof, facade and louvered panel systems
  • Heat-recovery climate control and ventilation systems, Passive House Standard triple-pane windows
  • Solar-powered LED lighting systems and high-efficiency appliances
  • Vacuum insulated panel systems
  • VRLA battery systems
  • Advanced wall construction materials and methods
The exhibit is sponsored by Arizona State University, the City of Tempe, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and Valley Forward.
