Website Names Chandler One of the Best Run Cities in America

Chandler, Arizona was named the 9th best run city in America by 24/7 Wall Street, a Delaware corporation that delivers financial news and opinion content through its website: 247wallst.com. The website stated that the most important function of local government is to encourage businesses to prosper and create jobs.

To determine their rankings, the site reviewed statistics and financial policies for the 100 largest U.S. cities by population and assessed their economies, fiscal discipline and standard of living to determine how well each is managed. Cities were ranked on violent crime stats, poverty rate, adult population that has graduated from high school and financial credit ratings. Chandler ranked in the top 15 of all the categories.

Here is an excerpt from the site's editorial staff:
"And despite home values dropping precipitously in the city, like the rest of the Phoenix region, Chandler managed to maintain a healthy economy. In 2010, the city had the ninth-lowest unemployment rate among the largest cities, and the sixth-lowest poverty rate. Chandler has been assigned a perfect Aaa stable rating by Moody's."
Mayor Jay Tibshraeny called the rating a true honor and validation for the city as it dealt with tough economic times.

"Chandler is indeed a very well-run city, and that is due to many factors," he said. "Our decades-old fiscal policy has kept us financially sound and better able to work through hard economic times. Couple that with a professional and dedicated staff, a great place to do business and a family friendly atmosphere, and there is little doubt this rating is warranted."
