Center for the Future of Arizona Launches Five Communities Project

The Center for the Future of Arizona recently announced the launch of a new program, the Five Communities Project. The Center launched the Five Communities Project as its first statewide effort to achieve The Arizona We Want.

The purpose of the project is to assist local and regional communities to develop and fund action plans that address the issues people in your area feel strongly about, such as job creation, education, healthcare, the environment or civic engagement.

Communities of all kinds are invited to develop grant proposals that describe how they could achieve results on one or more of the citizen goals identified by the Gallup Arizona Poll. Communities that are interested in participating must submit a Letter of Intent no later than May 16, 2011. For more information on this program, please visit: www.thearizonawewant.org/programs.

The Center is looking for bold ideas - exciting projects that are already underway or new ideas that focus the collective efforts of people on one or more of the citizen goals identified in The Arizona We Want. There are many examples of innovative thinking that are already producing great results or new ideas that show promise.

Through a competition that will identify the best ideas, five Arizona communities will be selected to partner with the Center in developing a collaborative proposal that will be submitted to some of the nation's most esteemed and influential foundations. The objective is to provide our partner communities with the resources to implement their plans over a three-year funding period.

The application process begins with completing a Letter of Intent. Approximately 10 Finalists will be selected through the process to develop a final proposal.

  • Each of the 10 finalists will be awarded a $5,000 development grant to help offset the cost of completing their grant proposals.
  • Representatives from the 10 communities will be invited as honored guests to the 66th National Conference on Citizenship to be held in Arizona on Thursday and Friday, Sept 22-23, 2011. This is the first time the national conference has been held outside Washington, D.C.
