Founded in 1878, the town is located 29 miles east of Yuma, Arizona on Interstate 8. The Town of Wellton is a center for business, services, recreation, and a leisurely
lifestyle in the Wellton-Mohawk Valley. Incorporated in 1970, we are home to 2,882 people (based on 2010 US Census information) and countless winter and retired residents
in our 28.3 square miles.
Surrounded by the Gila Mountains and local farms, the gorgeous sunrises each morning, the warmth, and sun-filled days, it is no wonder that folks have been coming to Wellton
to rest and enjoy the town's quiet setting. You'll discover our friendly town is a safe haven for you and your family.
We have a rich western history stemming from our roots as a water stop for the Butterfield Stage Coach and the railroad (hence Well Town - Wellton).
We host several annual events such as the Yuma Regional Medical Center Tractor Rodeo, Pioneer Day & Fiesta, an old fashioned 4th of July, Kiwanis Club Fishing Derby, Tri-Valley
Ambulance Benefit, Wellton World of Wheels Car Show and many other events. Our events all resonate with a strong sense of community and family.
The growth of Wellton necessitated the expansion of our town facilities and services. We have a family services center that hosts the medical clinic. There are two public golf
courses, two community parks (West Side Park and Butterfield Park) and Wellton Community Center. We also have a skate park for our youth and young adults. The Butterfield Golf
Course is an eighteen-hole Par 3 course that provides a leisurely game with the Gila Mountains and brilliant orange sunsets as a backdrop. The ND & Katie Kline Pool with its
large slide adds a respite for the hot, dry days during the summer.
Recreational vehicle parks are abundant, which fill up and triple the population from October through May. You can plan your next winter visit here and find your RV rest stop. Additional
activities include miles of off-road vehicle trails.
We are approximately 2 1/2 hours from Phoenix for the major league ballgames and 3 hours from San Diego, California for an ocean visit and beach getaway.
