Arizona Lottery Funds Important Programs Throughout Arizona

$3.3 Billion Given Back to the State Since 1981

People throughout Arizona recognize the Lottery through our products and the chance to win millions of dollars playing their favorite games. What many people don't realize is that funding from the Arizona Lottery is beneficial for many important programs and causes throughout the state.

Countless initiatives including cutting chronic homeless rates, saving endangered animals and providing healthcare to Arizona's women and their families have been made possible through Arizona Lottery funding for critical public programs.

Lottery support is focused on four main pillars: education, health and public welfare, the environment, and economic and business development in cities and towns from all 15 counties in Arizona. So far in FY15, a total of almost $119 million has been allocated to various beneficiary organizations that fall under one of the four pillars.

With the help of $2.1 million in Lottery funding allocated in FY14, the Department of Health Services' Health Start program was able to provide 400 Infant Car Seats, 235 Healthy at Home Screening and Assessments, 1,010 Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Screenings to over 3,275 women and families enrolled in their program.

The $10 million in funding allocated to the Heritage Fund, administered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, in FY14 allowed for the preservation of the California Condor and bald eagle in Arizona, among numerous other wildlife and educational initiatives.

The Arizona Lottery gives 25 percent of all revenues back to the Arizona community. Playing the Lottery is not only thrilling and potentially life changing for players, it also helps to maximize revenues in a responsible manner to support these Arizona programs for the public.

Lottery dollars also positively impact Arizona retailers who sell lottery tickets. So far in 2015, over $36.5 million has been generated in retailer commissions. Many Arizona retailers rely on ticket commissions to support their businesses and benefit their local communities.
