City/Town Snapshot: Bullhead City, AZ

Bullhead City has been labeled "Arizona's Hottest Destination." Yes, the weather does get a little hot in Bullhead City. However, the city remains a hot location for tourism, retail trades, construction and growth along the Colorado River adjacent to Laughlin, Nevada.

Bullhead City holds the largest river float in the world, attracts millions of tourists each year, hosts numerous sporting events at its first class sports facilities and continues to attract baby boomers that enjoy the slower pace of Bullhead City.

Many people are attracted to Bullhead City because of its affordability. In fact, Bullhead City is the most affordable city in Arizona.

Bullhead City incorporated in August 1984 and has grown in population to nearly 40,000 residents. Winter population of the city expands to more than 65,000. The city's boundaries encompass approximately 57.2 square miles and the elevation ranges from 500 to 1400ft.

Bullhead City is best known for its year round sunshine and blue skies, Black Mountain Range, Colorado River and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. After the winter visitors head back home, Bullhead City is a recreational playground for boating and water enthusiasts.

A fun fact about our city is that back in the late 1800's, Bullhead City was referred to as "Bull's Head City," after a huge rock located in the middle of the Colorado River that is shaped like a bull with its head above the water. This rock played a very important navigational aid for travelers during that time. Today, the rock is only partially visible in Lake Mohave since the construction of Davis Dam took place in the 1940's.

We are 40 miles from Kingman, 65 miles from Lake Havasu City, 102 miles from Las Vegas, NV and 23 miles from Needles, CA.

The city is very proud of its ongoing relationship with Kingman and Lake Havasu City - the Tri-City Council. This joint effort has produced several opportunities for the three cities to work together. The most significant is the Northern Arizona Employee Benefit Trust (NEABT), which is a health pool for all three cities.

Bullhead City has enough land and water to continue to grow well into the future. The city plans on a total build out of around 100,000 residents.
