Goodyear Resident Receives 2011 Lynch Scholarship

Nation Cities Weekly
by Laura Lanford

As a small business owner and mother of four living in Goodyear, Ariz., Joanne Osborne's interest in serving her community was originally sparked by a desire to improve the quality of local area schools. Her first leadership roles involved volunteering at "school and other kid-centric organizations," and these experiences led her to pursue other opportunities to engage in the governance and prosperity of Goodyear.

"My community leadership activity began as a mother of four," writes Osborne in her application essay for the fourth annual Michael H.T. Lynch scholarship. "But once my children grew older, I realized the experience I gained and my strong desire to serve could be used to do more."

Joanne Osborne's commitment to family and community continues through her service on the Goodyear City Council. She is currently serving her second four-year term on the council, and was elected vice mayor in 2011. Read the full story.
