Prop 108: Putting the Brakes on State Tax Increases

The goal of this Committee was to ask the voters of Arizona to pass an amendment to the Arizona Constitution that would make it more difficult for the Arizona State Legislature to increase taxes and fees paid by Arizonans. The It's TIME! Committee gathered enough petition signatures to place the issue on the 1992 statewide general election ballot. Proposition 108 passed overwhelmingly. Read more

Yuma Unveils Historic Promotion

Yuma hotel guests to dine free 'every day the sun doesn't shine'

A lot has changed in Yuma over the last century - but one thing that hasn't is the reliable sunshine that favors this southwestern town an average of 350 days a year.

In fact, back in the day, Yuma hotels boasted that they offered "free board every day the sun doesn't shine." Now, in honor of Arizona's Centennial celebration, the whole community will renew the historic offer for twelve months beginning August 1. Read more

Trash to Treasure

A new Chandler program converts one person's trash into another's treasure. The program allows residents thinking of throwing away items such as furniture, electronics, appliances and more to instead drop them off at a city run collection center. Any items that can be reused are then donated to a local non-profit. To read the full story, please point your browser here.

Tempe Starts Facebook Contest

In celebration of Social Media Day, the city of Tempe hosted a competition in June to encourage citizens to "like" their page, www.facebook.com/
cityoftempe
. The contest was created to offer a prize to the city's 2,011th fan in the year 2011. This unique idea allowed the city to garner more participation on their social media page for a low cost - prizes included a free boat rental from Tempe Boat Rental on Tempe Town Lake and a pair of tickets to the Songwriters' Showcase at Tempe Center for the Arts. To date, the city now has more than 2,200 fans.
