Issue 21 - May 31, 2013

Legislative Overview

Today marks the 138th day of the First Regular Session of the 51st Legislature. Following the five vetoes issued by the governor last week and the stern warning in the letters that accompanied those vetoes, legislative activity was sparse this week at the Capitol. There continues to be no movement on the state budget and Medicaid expansion. Efforts to advance a tax simplification plan without the blessing of cities and towns continue to be stymied as mayors and legislators alike recognize the issues prevalent in the proposal currently offered. In an effort to combat this ever-growing opposition, certain members of the business community have begun lobbying the legislature in earnest, making contact from of our city and town elected officials all the more crucial.
